Car Show Report March 15th 2009

car-show-header

Palmerston North turned on one of its normal bright sunny days, albeit with a cool south easterly blowing for the Chrome, Classic & Custom Car Show on the Railway Land on Pioneer Highway, a fundraiser for the Arohanui Hospice.

27 MG’s and Triumphs arrived for the MG Manawatu display with some coming from Levin, Wanganui, Waikanae and the surrounding local districts. Our banner and big flag attracted plenty of lookers over to our site.

Our display featured a special front row of 12 cars that spanned 73 years of MG history from 1931 up to 2004. Cars included an M Type, TC, TD, TF, MGA deluxe, MGB & MGB GT chrome & rubber bumper models, MGF’s & ZS180 V6.  Quite a few people commented on how good it was to have the cars lined up in the years they were produced – quite a history lesson! Other cars with us included 3 very nice Triumph TR models, a frogeye sprite and some more MG’s.

Autoglym had their stand next to ours and Gibby’s car was selected for a free polish job – he was glowing as much as his car at the end of it all! Autoglym is a range of UK manufactured premium car care products and if you missed out at the show you can purchase this from Manawatu Toyota in town.

The show was officially on from 10am – 2pm and it was a little disappointing to see quite a few cars leaving early from other displays – however our MG group stayed right through to the finish. Well done everyone and thanks for your attendance – we signed up another 3 members to join our ever increasing group which now takes our overall membership well into the 60’s!

This show is a bi-annual event so will be back again in 2011 – next year it is Wanganui’s turn again on Sunday 14th March 2010 – so keep this date free. (Of course you’re all planning that far ahead!!!!)

Remember to comment if you’d like or send photos in if you want them included on the site.
