Jabiru Aircraft Run Report Feb 09

 jabiru-header

A showery, windy, sunny day produced 26 cars in total to make the journey to the Foxpine Airpark in Foxton to view Jabiru aircraft and assembly processes by their New Zealand agents, John and Jennifer Lester.

The main group of cars assembled in Manchester Square Feilding ready for the 1.15 departure for the run south to Foxton. Our fleet of cars today included the usual gaggle of MGB’s. a lovely white MGC (a big welcome to these new faces!), an MGA, Magnette,  a couple of Triumph Stags ( a pair so they wouldn’t get lonely!), Metro, and I think a record number of MGF’s on a run – five in total, plus a couple of modern thingies.

Robert & Lynn, our tour leaders had put together a very detailed sheet of instructions for us all to follow and had us zig zagging our way across the scenic (and in places, smelly!!!) rural Manawatu district. At Foxton we met up with the second contingent of cars and then made our way out to the airfield where afternoon tea was in order before we went out to the assembly hangar to view two Jabiru aircraft. One was a new fully completed unit and the other was in the process of assembly. John & Jennifer gave us a great run down on all the features of these aircraft and their assembly processes and answered many questions from a very interested MG group!

A big thank you to Robert & Lynn for their organisation of this run and to John & Jennifer for allowing us to view this most interesting air craft and operation. More information on Jabiru aircraft can be found at www.jabiru.net.au

From there everyone made their way home. Once again a great turn out – thank you – and another good run with an interesting destination! Remember to comment on todays run if you’d like and send photos in if you would like them added to the website!

  1. Thank – you Robert and Lynn for this very interesting trip to the Jabiru “assembly plant” at Fox Pine.
The destination was different and most informative ( we especially enjoyed the talk and question time from John and Jennifer ).You put in a lot of detailed preparation for the MG club, and it is most appreciated by all those who were able to come.
    Kath and John
