2025 YEAR IN REVIEW
HELLO ALL
It has been a year since John Eames handed over this role to me. John was responsible for keeping our ‘club’ on track for 11 years and it is an honour to fill his shoes. Thank you, John, for your dedication and hard work over the years.

This has been an interesting year; we have had two weekend away trips and our usual monthly runs. Thank you to John and Viv for organising the Central Hawkes Bay (CHB) weekend in May and to Neil and Liz for organising the November weekend in Taranaki. Whilst Robyn and I attended the commencement of the CHB trip we found ourselves back in Feilding at about the same time everyone else was sitting down for lunch at the Patangata Hotel on the Saturday. Our trip back to Feilding was at the courtesy of the AA serviceman and his trailer. This resulted in a total engine rebuild. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make the Taranaki trip, but I understand those who attended had a great time.

Thank you to all those who were willing to organise a run for our group during the year. Your vision and commitment to help MG Manawatu continue to experience interesting outings is appreciated. Elaine and Bruce again hosted us, at their home, for our end of year/Christmas BBQ. We had 36 attend this event and there is a lot of work behind the scenes to make it happen. All the work and effort you both put in to ensure we all enjoyed the day is appreciated, thank you Elaine and Bruce.

During the year Robyn Christensen, who has moved to Melbourne, chose to relinquish the groups ‘Web Administrator’ role due to living in a different country. Robyn has been excellent at performing this role for many years, thank you Robyn, your work hasn’t gone un-noticed. We look forward to seeing you join us on a run sometime in the future when you are back visiting. We have been fortunate in gaining Evert Van Reenen, one of our Whanganui members, to the role. Thank you, Evert for putting your hand up to help. Evert has mentioned that there has been a surprising number of hits on our site in recent times, which is good to see. It means we have a presence out there in the ‘interweb’ space.

Some of you may not be aware that our Whanganui member, Chris McLeod, has a small group of local classic car enthusiasts, many of whom are also members of MG Manawatu, that he organises outings with. Thank you, Chris, for helping out with our fellow enthusiasts from Whanganui. And also, for encouraging them to come over to join our events.
We have a steady membership with one or two families joining each year and others moving on. Our membership database is managed by Robert Wilson. Robert is also our Treasurer looking after the receipt of our very small annual membership fee and paying our expenses. The largest of which is our website annual fee. As you all know Robert also coordinates the distribution to members of our run notices and other occasional items of communication, such as this ‘Review’. Robert is the glue that keeps us together. Thank you, Robert, for the time in organising all this for us. Without your fantastic attention to detail none of what we do as a group would run smoothly.

MG Manawatu is a group of MG enthusiasts, not a club, its ongoing success is driven by each of you, our members. Your commitment to staying loyal and attending runs organised by our various members, even if you only attend one run occasionally, is commendable.
Thank you.

Hopefully there are events during the year that are of interest to you. If there is something you would like to see or places you would like to go, please come along to our annual planning meeting and share them with us. If you can’t make the planning meeting, please share your idea(s) with either Robert or myself. The more people we have organising runs the greater the variety for our enjoyment. All ideas are welcome, if you have an idea or run in mind but don’t feel up to organising it yourself, not a problem, there are those amongst us who will organise it for you.

Thank you all for an enjoyable first year and I look forward to all of us building another great year in 2026.
