Visit to The Surgery Panel Shop - news item and photos courtesy of Robert Wilson
Chris Haslam and I joined with MG Wellington last Sunday, 15 August, to take a look through ‘ The Surgery’ panel shop in Tawa.
What an amazing place. About 40 classics undergoing work from just a bit of rust to a full strip down. Waiting time for new work now 12 months.
VW Combie vans seem to be the in thing at the moment and was also a MG midget getting an electric implant.

Video - Over The Alps to Italy
|
Chris Haslam told us about this very interesting video that his friend, Rod Bean, filmed back in 1965 when they went over The Alps to Italy in Chris's MGB. They went through the newly opened Mont Blanc tunnel, and there is some great footage of cars and scenes of the day, and a very young and dapper Chris! A wonderful look at a bygone era and well worth taking the time to watch. Those were the days.......

MG's at the Melbourne F1 and a visit to the Fox Museum - Robert Wilson (04/17)
At the end of March I had the opportunity to fly to Melbourne to watch the Formula One races. My brother and I flew out on the Wed 22nd and arrived back in NZ on the 28th.
Melbourne is a great city and the motor racing was an amazing event. At the circuit they had display vehicles dotted around the grounds and of course I made my way to the MG’s. I did get to talk with some of the owners and had quite a discussion with the chap that owned the black and silver roadster - as you can see his car was very well presented. He used to be a motor mechanic and tuned the cars for Alan Moffat.
While there we also visited the FOX car museum - this is down in the old docks area and is owned by Lindsay Fox who owns the LIN-FOX trucking company.
All the entry money goes to charity and a great display of MG’s.

A Tale of Two MGF's, Two Multiple MG Owners and the MG Owners Club.....
Have a read of the PDF below, a recent article from the MG Owners Club monthly magazine 'Enjoying MG' which features two members of the MG Manawatu group and the amazing story of their cars...... |
A Blast From The Past !
A 1967 copy of the Wanganui "Photo News" recently surfaced amongst the Manawatu group - these "Photo News" newspapers or magazines were once available in many towns and cities in New Zealand. Our historian and archivist was browsing this copy and came across this image of well known MG identity Gay Baxter! Gay is photographed next to her nearly new (in those days!) MGB after having achieved the second-fastest time for sports-racing cars at the sprint held by the Wanganui Car Club. The sprint was held at Rapanui with 37 entries and competitors from as far afield as Wellington and Taihape, with times being taken for both flying and standing quarter-mile runs. 07/2014 |
